For our final Allied trip of the semester, we focused on friends and friendship for the kindergarten and first grade students. We talked about how friends can take many forms, from people you know at school to siblings to animals, and sometimes even people you don’t like at first! The second and third graders enjoyed a variety of books that weren’t centered around a specific theme, but just provided some fun and entertainment for a great last trip!

Our second trip to Allied this semester was on October 24. Our storytime for the kindergarten and first grade students focus on plucky poultry, while the second and third graders enjoyed stories about animals. It was especially fun to use the book Chicken Dance (pictured below) to give one of the second graders a mini-lesson about the King (Elvis, not one of the many historical figures)! Here are some of the books we read:

Our first trip to Allied was this past Monday, October 1. We had a great volunteer turnout, and were so excited to have some new first-year volunteers participating! Our theme was Fall, and the students enjoyed reading and looking at books all about fall. Kindergarten and first grade students participated in storytimes, while the second and third graders paired up with volunteers to read one-on-one. Overall, a great way to start this year of Allied Drive Literacy Time! We’re all looking forward to coming back in a few weeks. Here are some of the books we read:
